ACP PROGRAMS - Knowledge Series
This series is a natural evolution from our Collector's Series which was designed to help educate people on collecting photography, and to broaden the collector base for photography. The new name "Knowledge Series" more accurately fits the types of programs that are offered and allows expansion into programs that offer career, technical, or art historical perspectives to benefit photographers of all levels.
Speakers have included Denise Bethel, Director of the Photographs department, Sotheby's, NY; Jane Jackson, Curator of the Sir Elton John Collection; Paul R. Jones, Collector; and Anne Wilkes Tucker, Curator of Photography, Museum of Fine Art, Houston.
MARY VIRGINIA SWANSON
PORTFOLIO CENTER
10/05/2011 Mary Virginia Swanson will be presenting "To be Published, or Self-published?", with special guests Laura Noel, and Bill Boling.
The print-on-demand revolution has opened up new publishing possibilities for photographers; it has never been easier or more affordable to produce and market a book of your photographs. The traditional publishing path has the advantage of a highly specialized team that brings experience with design, production, marketing and distribution systems to the table. In a self-publishing scenario you can create exactly the book you envision, but without the input and expertise of seasoned professionals at a publishing house. Which scenario is best for you?
In this illustrated presentation, Mary Virginia Swanson will discuss both avenues to publishing and help participants determine the pros/cons of each, sharing resources from her recent title with coauthor Darius Himes, Publish Your Photography Book (Princeton Architectural Press, Spring 2011).

MARY VIRGINIA SWANSON
SCAD - ATLANTA
10/18/2009 In this seminar, marketing consultant/educator Mary Virginia Swanson discusses the path toward connecting your work with your desired community.
One of the most gratifying experiences for an artist is presenting their work to an appreciative audience.
Whether you wish to share your work with your local and regional communities, or take on the challenge of marketing at the national level, artists need to understand the most effective path to that audience.
Swanson will discuss effective research to determine who will be receptive audiences and how to initiate and maintain a dialogue with those individuals to whom you wish to introduce your work. Participants will learn how to effectively communicate their work in one-on-one meetings, appropriate industry gatherings, portfolio reviews and other events. She will explain the importance of presenting a strong and consistent brand, having a presence in both print and online environments (including multimedia), and maintaining awareness of industry trends and market challenges for all audiences you wish to reach.
