ACP is pleased to announce that Eilis Gehle, a 17-year old student at Decatur High School, has won the ACP High School Essay Contest and a Canon Rebel digital-SLR kit. From Eilis’ winning essay:

“I want to be able to take pictures of my memories. Maybe I won’t become a photographer, but I will continue to always take pictures. If I had a camera I would be able to create my own memories through it and make memories for other people to cherish.”

We want to congratulate Eilis and thank each and every student who took the time to enter the contest. There were more entries than we expected, and choosing the winning essay was a true challenge.

We’d like to send a Big Thank You to Nida Zada for her kind and generous support of this year’s contest. If you’d like to donate a (gently used) digital-SLR kit for this initiative, please contact us so we can continue to support young photographers!

Media Contact: Michael David Murphy
Press Release download: [pdf]

Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP)
Joins International Consortium
of Photography Festivals

ATLANTA – Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP) announces today that it has been accepted into Festival of Light (festivaloflight.net) an international collaboration of more than 20 photography festivals taking place all over the globe. Becoming a part of Festival of Light allows ACP to operate on an international platform, greatly increasing the organization’s ability to draw from an international roster of guest lecturers and portfolio reviewers while providing greater opportunities for international exposure to photographers and venues that participate in ACP’s annual festival. ACP is one of three member organizations in the United States, including Photolucida in Portland, OR and FotoFest in Houston, TX.

Amy Miller ACP’s Executive Director states “We are thrilled to become a part of Festival of Light. It is invigorating to have Atlanta’s voice become part of a greater international dialogue of cooperation and photographic exploration. Presenting ACP to the members of Festival of Light for consideration was an honor. We look forward to collaborating with photo festivals from around the world, while working to increase Atlanta’s visibility as an international center for photography.”

###
About Atlanta Celebrates Photography
Atlanta Celebrates Photography (ACP) supports Atlanta’s emergence as an international center for photography. Through an annual October festival and year-round programs, ACP seeks to nurture and support photographers, educate and engage audiences, promote diverse photography venues, and enrich the city’s cultural scene. For additional information visit www.acpinfo.org.

ACP is a 501(c) (3) non-profit arts organization supported by Bank of America, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners, Atlanta, Georgia under the guidance of the Fulton County Arts Council (FCAC), Atlanta, Georgia; the Metropolitan Atlanta Arts Fund (MAAF); Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., the City of Atlanta Bureau of Cultural Affairs (BCA); and the Georgia Council for the Arts (GCA) through appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly. GCA also receives support from its partner agency, the National Endowment for the Arts. Additional support for ACP comes from corporate and private donors.

About Festival of Light
At the beginning of the 20th century, photography heralded a new form of art and popular communication. At the end of this century, festivals and museums of photography are becoming the focal points of popular culture around the world. The FESTIVAL OF LIGHT joins the visual technologies of the 19th and 20th centuries with the new communication systems of the 21st century.

The FESTIVAL OF LIGHT creates a pathway of photography around the world – a year-long program of monthly events in three continents – celebrating the diversity of art and society across the world.
