Updates to the Printed Festival Guide

We only have a handful of Festival Guides left at the office, which means that 15,000 of them are circulating around town! As always, when creating a document of this size, errors crop-up, and we wanted you to be aware of them. We’ll update this post over time, as well.

Page 55, the Gil Smith event and exhibition has been cancelled.
Page 61, the photo-credit for the Atlanta Friends Meeting Exhibition should be Meredith Reynolds

Google Map for ACP 2011

We’ve just released a Google Map for ACP 2011 that’s viewable on your smartphone, tablet, or desktop computer! If you want a real treat, you can download this kml file and open it in Google Earth for 3D zoomable fun.

Each placemark reveals details about the events and exhibitions, and depending where you view the map, the ACP programs are marked with a different color placemark. (Yellow on Google Maps, blue, in Google Earth.)

ACP 2011 Events and Exhibitions – Week of Sept. 12th

Roswell Photographic Society’s Best of North Fulton went on display on Monday, and will be up for an entire year at the Greater North Fulton Chamber of Commerce. On Wednesday, Perry Julien’s It Doesn’t Need Sound will be on view at Aurora Coffee in Little 5 Points, with a reception planned for October 7th.

On Thursday, Laura Noel’s Subject Matters will be opening at Spruill Gallery. Larry Winslett’s exhibition of photographs of Stone Mountain will be on view at the park starting Thursday. And Friday is the opening of the upstart photo-festival in Pike County, the fantastically rural Slow Exposures which will be having exhibitions, juror’s talks, an artist’s lecture from Sylvia Plachy, and an exhibition at A Novel Experience from David Simonton.

Friday night brings a reception at KIANG PROJECTS for Xiuwen Cui’s latest exhibition, Existential Emptiness. Jerry Siegel will be opening his exhibition of photographs of Geraldine on Friday as well at Barbara Archer Gallery. And Tom Zarrilli’s photographs of local yard sale sellers will be on view at Callanwolde.

On the Westside, Michael M. Koehler will be opening at Get This! Gallery, and in Buckhead, there are three openings at Mason Murer; Liesa Cole and Tony Rodio, Women in Focus will launch an exhibition curated by Brett Abbott, and Abstraction Medium from Marcia Vaitsman, Margaret Hiden and Rachel Speed.

ACP 2011 Events & Exhibitions – Weekend of September 9th

While ACP traditionally starts at the end of September, there are many exhibitions and events that are already underway, plus a whole lot of action happening this weekend! Here are a few weekend tips:

Spelman College Museum of Fine Art is showing 15×15, their 15th Anniversary Acquisitions Exhibition through December 3rd. Marcia Vaitsman’s “Study of Strange Things” opens at Solomon Projects on Thursday. And Hagedorn Foundation Gallery’s “The New Photograph” goes on view the same day, with a reception later this month.

Friday evening brings Sally Mann’s Proud Flesh to Jackson Fine Art, and ACP Board Member Stephanie Dowda has curated a wide-ranging group show at Emily Amy Gallery called “Echoes of the Sublime” which opens on Friday as well.

The Ediger’s ” Left of Reality” will be on view in Dahlonega at Montaluce Winery and Le Vigne Restaurant starting this Friday, and The Shot Atlanta has an all-day Open House over on Metropolitan Parkway on Saturday, Sep. 10th.

Jennifer Schwartz Gallery opens with Dave Anderson’s photographs of the Lower Ninth Ward (and a book signing) on Saturday evening, while simultaneously launching Outlands: Land Over Time, a group show exploring farms, land, and the built environment.

Ryan Nabulsi’s exhibition “Photo Secession” at {Poem88} will be on view starting on Saturday, and if you’re a photographer in Marietta, get in touch with fellow photographers via Cobb Photo Society.

ACP 2011 Festival Guide Now Online – Check Out Exhibitions Currently On View

With the publishing of the online ACP 2011 Festival Guide today, we want to note which exhibitions are already currently on view.

A collection of Carl Van Vechten’s photographs is currently on view at the Robert W. Woodruff Library at Emory University. Santiago Vanegas’ photographs of Antartica are on view this year at the Transportation Mall at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.

Chip Simone’s Resonant Image debuted at the High Museum of Art this Spring, and will be on-view during ACP. Stefani Byrd & Wes Eastin have a multimedia exhibition of photography and video at The Columbus Museum in Columbus, Georgia.

Golf photographer and gallery owner Robert Matre has a show of his golf photography through October 9th in Gainesville at Quinlan Visual Arts Center. Art Station in Stone Mountain is hosting a portfolio show from graduating seniors at Gwinnett Technical College through Oct. 29th. And Atlanta-based artist Micah Stansell has a multi-channel video installation as a winner of MOCA GA’s Working Artist Project through Dec. 3rd.

Anne Berry’s photographs of animals are on view at Dakota Blue in Grant Park through the end of October. If you’re in Cabbagetown, check out the Carrol St. Cafe, currently showing Emily Harris’ photographs of Louisiana swamps. And Hazel Berger’s exhibition of Georgia’s State Parks is on view at REI Perimeter through Dec. 3rd. Also, the Gallery at Serenbe is featuring the photographs of Barry Goldwater through Oct. 29th.

ACP 2011 Festival Guide Listings Due Friday, July 8th at Midnight

The deadline for submitting your event and/or exhibition for the ACP 2011 Festival Guide is rapidly approaching. We’re accepting listings until 11:59pm (EST) this Friday, July 8th. Here are a few great reasons to participate as an official ACP event:

Your listing will be printed in 15,000 Festival Guides distributed across the Atlanta-metro area.
Your listing will be promoted on acpinfo.org, in weekly emails distributed during the festival, and in a downloadable PDF.
As an official ACP participant, we will promote your events year-round on our renowned blog, ACP Now!
Join a network of over 150 venues (and over 400 artists) who participate in ACP each year.
And lastly, because it benefits us all – the bigger the festival, the more national attention Atlanta’s photo community receives (AND the more visitors come for the festival and to experience your event)

Starting today, you can participate in Atlanta Celebrates Photography 2011, by listing your photo-related event, exhibition, workshop, book signing, artist’s talk (and more!) at festivalguide.acpinfo.org.

Each and every listing will be published in 15,000 printed Festival Guides distributed across the Metro area, and listings will be viewable (and downloadable, as a PDF) on the Festival Guide website in September. In the printed guide, listings will be arranged chronologically, and on the site we’ll have a calendar of events, a map of locations, and you’ll be able to view the Festival by date, artist, neighborhood or venue.

To be an official event in Atlanta Celebrates Photography 2011, list your event, upload your event’s photo, preview your listing and securely checkout at festivalguide.acpinfo.org. Base price for a Festival Guide listing is $150, and submissions for listings will be open until the end of June.

ACP is primarily an October festival, and the Festival Guide will be distributed mid-September. Please keep this in mind when planning your events.

Each listing will have an image. The best way to draw attention to your event is to include an image that you have permission to publish. If you cannot select an image to use, please consider using a logo or a photo of the interior of your venue. See the 2010 Festival Guide for reference (pdf).

With our acclaimed blog ACP Now!, we’re able to promote you (ACP’s participating photographers and venues) and your events year-round. That alone is worth the price of a listing in the Festival Guide!

ACP 12 Festival Guides are Here…

Upcoming Deadlines: ACP 12 Festival Guide and Portfolio Review

If you haven’t been receiving our email updates, you’ll want to know about two important upcoming deadlines.

June 30th is the last day to list your event in the ACP 12 Festival Guide. And if you want to attend the ACP 12 Portfolio Review, you have until July 12th to apply and submit your images!
