Chuck Close photographs in show at Alan Avery Art through April 19th

There are 10 photographs included in the current Chuck Close show at Alan Avery Art. From Stephanie Dowda's review of the show from Burnaway: "Other works by Close are inspired by new processes that seem to remove the artist’s hand, like a new watercolor digital printing process on Hahnemühle paper, on which bleeding colors replace the orbs painted within a grid." 1995sp

The exhibition will concentrate on self-portraits of the artist and include a varied spectrum of mediums. Initially working as a Photorealist, Close paints large-scale portraits. His work is based on the use of a grid as an underlying basis for the representation of an image. Close is also a master printmaker who has pushed the boundaries of traditional printmaking, creating screen-prints with over 200 colors.
