All visual artists living and working in the 23-county Greater Atlanta area are invited to submit applications for the Artadia Awards 2011 Atlanta online through September 15, 2011. Individual artists and collaboratives working in all media and at any point in their career are strongly encouraged to apply. Applications will be reviewed by an esteemed panel of nationally known curators, arts professionals, and artists the fall of 2011 in a rigorous two-tiered jury process. This marks the second cycle of Artadia Awards in Atlanta; more than 300 artists applied in 2009. “Artadia is unique among organizations serving Atlanta’s arts community. It not only provides significant and unrestricted financial support to Atlanta’s visual artists at a time when many other sources of funding have been cut, but it connects our artists and entire community to an important national network of curators, artists, and collectors. Atlanta’s artists are actively engaged in a global contemporary art dialogue, and Artadia provides a crucial vehicle for making their voices heard. I am honored to be a member of Artadia’s board and thrilled to support its efforts on behalf of artists in Atlanta and beyond,” said Louis Corrigan, founder of Flux Projects and Possible Futures. All eligible applicants can access the application online via the Artadia website www.artadia.org between June 15 and September 15, 2011. A short-list of 15 artists will be announced in October after the first-round panel. A second-round jury will travel to Atlanta in November for 45-minute studio visits with each of the finalists and determine the Artadia Awardees. Artadia will award two awards of $15,000 and five awards of $3,000. Artadia will be holding a number of info sessions about the online application and the review process throughout the application period, including an in-person info session at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center on July 16, and two webinars on August 23 and September 1, the latter will have a special focus on studio visits. Generous support for Atlanta artists with Artadia has been provided by foundations including the Judith Alexander Foundation and the LUBO Fund, and individual contributions led by Board member Louis Corrigan in addition to Paul Hagedorn, Robert Brawner, and New York Board member Marie Samuels. All funds contributed towards Artadia Atlanta go directly to support the awards and program. Program operations and overhead are underwritten by Artadia’s Board and special donor groups. Three of the seven awards have been underwritten to date. “It’s a privilege to work closely with Atlanta arts patrons and partner organizations to ensure broad support for visual artists locally, as well as to further broadcast the important work happening in the metro area to a national audience. Building on the success of our first cycle in 2009, we are opening applications to Atlanta artists this summer and hope to break records in artist applications and diverse support streams for Atlanta artists. Every time I am in Atlanta I am so energized by the passion and strength of work evident there,” commented Lila Kanner, Artadia’s executive director. Artadia launched its Atlanta awards program in 2009 in close consultation with dedicated local arts organizations with the goal to support artists locally and promote the city’s vibrant arts community on a national level. Seven outstanding artists were selected that year. They have since been included in a nationally distributed publication featuring Artadia Awardees from around the country, a well-received exhibition at the Boston Center for the Arts’ Mills Gallery, and they have been promoted via Artadia’s many other outlets such as the Art Fair Guide, monthly newsletter, the Artadia Artist Files online.
