A free, open-to-the-public lecture from Candice Breitz on Tuesday, 7:30 p.m., 4C Events Space, 1600 Peachtree St. See Breitz’ work on her site.
“Johannesburg-born artist Candice Breitz completes multichannel, theoretically-potent video installations that critique the increasingly “scripted lives” of celebrities and their admirers. The resulting, Pop-inspired portraits – built off of sampled performances by Madonna, Clint Eastwood and a Bob Marley fan, to name a few – investigate issues of individuality, communication and personal expression within a global consumer culture. Breitz is a professor of fine art at the Braunschweig University of Art in Germany.”
